One of the most important things on your vehicle is to have good wiper blades. If you can’t see through the streaks your wipers are making, it will affect your safety.
While working in the auto parts store there would be people who would come in the minute it starts pouring rain or snowing and sleeting. Waiting last minute with shot wiper blades is foolish and unsafe.
By the time everyone decides to replace the worn out wipers, sometimes the stores will run out of certain sizes at a time when the demand for them is high.
You can also wipe the blades down once a month with a cloth and a little alcohol. It will remove road dirt, grime and grease from them.
Some vehicles may have the same size wipers on both sides.. and others will have 2 different sizes.
Preventative… buy 2 sets of wiper blades.
You’ll then have a spare set if you need them and won’t have to go to the store for more at the moment.
Rear Wipers
Brand new cars will have to go to the dealer for them. The replacements are usually not obtainable through a parts store for a year or more (depending on the vehicle).
Winshield washer fluid can also make a difference in the way your wipers clean the glass.
You can choose to buy the blue stuff (regular cleaner), the RainX cleaners both green ( bugs) and orange ( defroster).
The blue stuff is good for warmer weather, but I find that in extreme cold weather the -20 degree stuff freezes up.
RainX Bug cleaner (green). It helps to keep the dead bugs from sticking to the glass. You may still have to use a squeegy to remove the ones really stuck on there.
RainX defroster cleaner (orange). I use this one all year around. It cleans the glass, helps me to see better in huge downpours and keeps the wipers from getting worn out so fast.
Buying Wiper Blades
You can find wipers in a variety of places. Wal-Mart, Auto part stores, Target, and BJ’s others. You can also shop online for them.
I bought my last set of wiper blades from Rock Auto.com . My Volvo came with Bosch Blades which are really good blades, but they’re pricey in the auto parts store.
Through Rock Auto (when I bought them) they were $3 a piece. I also have headlight wipers which were under $7 for the pair. The rear wiper was also inexpensive.
Here’s another tip for you…
If you decide to purchase wiper blades in an auto parts store, most of them will price match other auto parts stores. So if you find a better price in another store and can show it to the counter person, they can match it.
If you go online to a parts store to buy any wiper blades or parts, they will offer you a coupon to use during purchase to help save you money on those things. Some parts stores will have a rewards program that you can save money after you’ve spent a certain amount of money.
They WILL NOT however, price match eBay or one of those sites. Its within a certain amount of miles and in a physical store with that area.
